2024 FAQs

Where does Challenge take place?- We have events scheduled at different locations throughout the metro. Most of the events will be in Joplin but some maybe outside of Joplin.

What are the dates of the Corporate Challenge? - The Games will take place over two months. The date for the kick-off party and walk is Friday, April 5th. Each company will be assigned an area to set up, similar to tailgating. You can invite your employees out to your section where you may have a tent, bbq, or catering, they can bring their families and participate in the walk. We will have things for kids to do and we also encourage companies to have fun stuff to do in their areas as well (other employees/families may stop by your tent for information as well). Company coordinators and their volunteers will likely need to leave work early that day for setup. That will also be the day of the walk. Events will continue until the end of May. *New this year! Companies can include blackout dates on their registration form to notify us of dates the majority of their employees will not be available. We will try to accommodate as many as possible. You must registratino by February 15th to provide blackout dates.

What time of day does it take place? Does it happen in the daytime, during business hours, or after hours? - We will prioritize events in the evenings during the work week. 5:30PM will be the earliest start time outside of the Kick-Off Party and possibly the Golf Scramble. We will continue to have events on Saturday and Sunday but they will be limited.

Do we have to participate in all of the events? - Your registration fee covers entry into every event. However, you can choose which events you participate in based on the interests of your employees. Keep in mind that the more events you participate in the more likely you are to place in the competition. Companies will receive points for participating in each event, providing volunteers, and placing in each competition. These points accumulate resulting in the winners of the corporate challenge. In June we will have a closing celebration and give out awards.

Can employees register themselves for the events they want to participate in? - Your company will enter teams for the events they plan to participate in by March 11. After that, your employees will be able to register themselves online.

Will you provide templates for us to use to invite our employees to participate? - We will provide template emails that you can customize for your employees.

When will we have the full schedule of events? - We will provide you with a calendar showing the days each event will take place before you submit the events you are participating in. The brackets with game schedules will be provided one week before the event. Your company can delete a team two weeks before the event date to avoid penalty points. The Volunteer schedule will be provided on March 18th.

How will our company and employees stay informed? - Each company must designate at least one Company Coordinator (we recommend larger companies having at least 3) to attend the mandatory meeting on March 7th, 9AM at Missouri Southern State College, Billingsly Student Center Rm 309. COMPANIES MUST HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE AT THIS MEETING! We will work directly with these Coordinators to keep your company informed.

Are there other fun activities we can participate in? - Yes, there is a T-Shirt Contest, no points are awarded but it is a great start for team morale. Shirts must be dropped off no later than Friday, March 29 to be entered in the contest. You can drop them in the mail slot at the Rock Center, 809 Langston Hughes Broadway, Joplin Mo 64801

Are T-Shirts provided? - No, t-shirts are not provided but it is suggested that during the event each corporation wear “like” t-shirts. This is a great way to represent your corporation. Additionally, this will help with scoring and team identification during the event. We will also have a nonpointed, T-Shirt Contest. The contest is a design competition in which the JMCC Steering Committee selects their favorite design. A prize is given to the
winning company of this “Best T-shirt Design” contest. Additional Details will be released in January.
Criteria the Board uses in making their decision:
1. Visual appeal and coordination of colors
2. Readability
3. Clearly illustrates the company name or logo
4. Creativity / Originality of design
5. Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge name or logo displayed
